Animal Indexing

We use animal indexing at Bralca as a way of ensuring that you always get an animal that performs above the industry average. This systematic approach allows us to confidently collect and interpret figures from our own sheep enterprises.

Because we are a wool focussed enterprise the figures we collect are:

• Micron
• SD (Standard Deviation)
• CV (Coefficient of Variation)
• Fleece weight
• Body weight
• Fertility

Commercial Value

Our focus has always been on producing an animal that will provide a commercially valuable product. To do this we judge each of our focus traits against its capacity to deliver enterprise profits.

An animal with a commercial value index of 140 is 40% more productive than the industry average. For Bralca this is driven by:

• High fleece weight
• Low micron
• High growth rates
• High fertility
