Breeding Program

Bralca’s breeding program is focussed on commercial results. Animals are bred specifically for their ability to meet market requirements. When Bralca and its clients sell wool they are regularly achieving top prices for spinners wool.

Bralca genetics are based on 40 years of specialist breeding to refine the distinctive features of a true superfine line. We work directly with the world’s leading sheep classers, geneticists, wool processors and researchers to develop a highly productive line of animals that suit a range of climatic conditions.
Two family lines exist at BRALCA.

• Superfine - 16-17 μm avg 5.5 kg fleece weight
• Ultrafine   - 14-16 μm avg 4.5 kg fleece weight

 

Awared Wining

The wool produced as a result of our breeding program has received awards both nationally and internationally.  
To provide you with highly productive sheep we focus on selecting for heavy cutting, fertile sheep. We use both visual selection and production figures to achieve this outcome. Some figures we use include

• Fleece weights
• Birth weights and growth rates
• Commercial value of fleeces
