Using RFID to develop Productivity

The use of RFID (Radio frequency identification device) ear tags has revolutionised what can be achieved in the management of commercial sheep operations. AT Bracla we are using this to identify highly productive animals The big opportunity for improvement is in identifying the low production animals and removing them from the flock.
We use these tags to assist with:

• weighing, recording and drafting
• Productive performance
• Pedigree matchmaker (Matching ewes and lambs)
• In paddock walk over weighing
• Tailored index ranking of animals on farm

 

Implementing PSM (Precision Sheep Management) is relatively straight forward. It is essential to know which sheep in the flock contribute to enterprise profit. We use this to continue to develop our flock and provide our consistently high animal indexing figures. Evidence of our animals’ capacity to perform is shown in the show ring with our animals consistently taking out the top awards.
